MCADENVILLE | Known for its Christmas lights, a tradition dating back to 1956, when the town began decorating trees outside of the community center. The owner of the textile mill Mr. W.J. Pharr gave permission on the first year to decorate for Christmas. The first year there were 9 trees decorated in traditional Christmas colors. The next year, all of the trees around the lake along with the 9 trees were decorated with stringed lights. Over the many years this has been going on, people kept joining in and participating in this joyful tradition. In 2004 over 375 trees were decorated for this holiday. To this day, there are still over 375 trees decorated every year. The size of the trees vary tremendously 6 six feet to 90 feet. The favorite spot is the lake that is surrounded by 30 three trees with a fountain located in the center of the lake that sprays water 75 feet into the air. The streets are decorated with Christmas characters of all types, and street posts are decorated with wreaths.
CRAMERTON | A graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, Stuart Warren Cramer was very well known for in the textile industry. Cramer designed approximately 150 different mills, over thirty percent of all mills in the South at this time. Not only did Cramer design mills, he built eleven mills, and was a successful inventor. Using the money Cramer made from designing and building mills, he was able to buy several mills in the area jumping him to be the most successful mill owner in the area. Around 1910, the mill town was known as Mayworth which shortly after would be changed to Cramerton. After falling in love with a English manor home when on a trip in Europe, he decided to build one to be used as his summer home. The home was built in 1917, which sat on top of a mountain overlooking the town. The mountain that the home was built on is present day Cramer Mountain, home of Cramer Mountain Club.
